Why Disney Plus’ Obi Wan Kenobi Series May Be Top 3 Star Wars Project

Disney Plus has announced the release date for the highly anticipated Obi Wan Kenobi series which will debut this upcoming May. The show will follow Obi Wan after the events of the climatic third movie Revenge of the Sith. The fight scene ended with Obi Wan dismembering his former Padawan on the deadly planet of Mustafar. This planet is known for having extremely high temperatures, being highly inhabitable and a heavy presence of flowing lava that moves like the ocean during a storm.

Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope saw Obi Wan much older than what he was during the prequel trilogy. That means this series has a lot of potential in terms of how much story it can explore with this character. The galaxy is very vast and with recent series’ success such as Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian & Book of Boba Fett it seems that the television route is a very viable route for this franchise.

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are both reprising their roles as Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader respectively. This means that fans will receive the sword fighting cinematic action that they saw during Episode III. These two actors went through extensive training and intense fight choreography in order to bring to life the best live action light saber fight in Star Wars’ history. Seeing the two former friends fight while traversing platforms and dodging lava was a sight in itself. It’s safe to say that with newer technology, the fights will look even better. The concept art above is the official work for the upcoming television show so fans should expect a feeling of nostalgia as well as freshness when Vader makes his return.

These actors have built up chemistry from working on the third film together and it’s very likely that they’ve retained some of the training they went through. Seeing them be able to return to that years later will definitely be a sight so see for many. A YouTube video as released a while back by YouTuber FixItInPost which showed a reimagined version of the fight between an older Obi Wan and Darth Vader during Episode IV. This demonstrated the fan’s yearning for a newer fight scene with these two force users and the post credit scene of Rogue One made it even worse. Vader today is much more scary than the Vader of the 70s & 80s and it’s simply due to the technology that film makers have available to them.

Now with this series being developed and funded by Disney along with the returning actors, this show may be one of Star Wars’ all time greatest if they handle it right. It would also be amazing to see more characters appear such as Ahsoka, Boba Fett or even Cad Bane. Only time will tell how this series will be handled but in the meantime be sure to check back here for more updates!

Marvel President Says Doctor Strange Has ‘Become the Anchor’ of the MCU

Benedict Cumberbatch is known for many roles but as far as Marvel goes, he plays the fan favorite Doctor Strange. Strange was introduced in the self titled film and has been a pivotal aspect of the overarching Marvel cinematic storyline. During a speech for Cumberbatch’s receiving a star on Hollywood’s walk of fame, Kevin Feige went on to say, “To us and to millions around the globe, you deserve this honor for being the first, the best, the greatest and the only Doctor Stephen Strange.” The President continued, “Benedict has turned this character into an icon, appearing in a historic three of the top six films of all time.”

“It’s been quite a journey, I remember our very first meeting. … We wanted to pitch him this great character, and before we could he said, ‘So tell me about Doctor Strange,’ because somewhere you knew what this could be…You’ve always seen the tremendous potential in this character and because of that, you’ve become the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the only actor capable of guiding us through the madness of the Multiverse.”

Doctor Strange is the anchor literally and figuratively in this live action world of Marvel. With most of the original members of the Avengers out of the picture, there’s a new open spot for somebody to lead. Doctor Strange’s power dwarfs a lot of his comrades due to the large scale of responsibility placed on his shoulders. He will not only be an anchor as a leader or mentor for the upcoming younger heroes but he will also anchor the multiverse as it unravels following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home

The Next Video Game Movie After Uncharted

Uncharted has finally been released to theaters! The film went through a very lengthy process of hard development so for it to finally be out in theaters for the consumption of fans is a miracle to say the least. Now more than ever video games are becoming more popular and widely accepted. Mortal Kombat, Detective PIkachu, The Witcher & Arcane are a few recent video game adaptations that weren’t universally hated. With video game adaptations being in the best place it’s ever been since it’s existence in cinema. There are several more projects set to be released including Halo, Fallout and Bioshock to name a few. So let’s think about some other projects that may make for a solid adaptation!

Metro

Metro is actually based on a novel series of the same name so adapting this won’t be as difficult as it would be for other video game series. Similar to Netflix’s The Witcher, the show can adapt from the book’s story rather than trying to be accurate to the video game. The series takes place in Moscow, Russia during the post apocalyptic nuclear fallout. The series follows a man named Artyom who is one of the residents that live underground in the city’s metro system due to the toxic above ground air being unable to breathe.

The series is full of different factions, betrayals, mutated monsters, wide open landscapes and nail biting close calls that make fans fixate on when or if Artyom will survive. This series would benefit from a live action adaptation but due to the apocalyptic landscape being very vast this show may end up becoming an adult animated series. This would be a perfect 8 episode series where each season follows each book or video game.

Star Fox

Star Fox has the making of a perfect animated series. It has the animal cast with all distinct personalities, it has the space drama plot as well as the vast array of planets to explore. This would definitely benefit from an animated series but be aimed for the teenage or young adult crowd. If this captures the vibe of the Cartoon Network Teen Titans series then many would take it more seriously than just a casual campy children show. Most of Star Fox fanbase are well into their adulthood which means they don’t have to pull punches. This would potentially bring more fans to the series which may give Nintendo an incentive to put more money behind the series.

Dragon Age

Since Bioware is confirmed to be working on a Mass Effect series, this leaves the question open for Dragon Age. There’s an immense amount of fantasy content on streaming services right now so there might be fatigue for this genre but the lore is so immense that it may hold its weight. Dragon Age is a series that has multiple different creatures, races, monsters, factions, magic, combat and of course dragons. The series has a lot of political aspects to it where the factions and organizations have conflict as well as hostile interactions. This series can be a standalone story since the first game follows a player created character called the Grey Warden.

MARVEL Reveals Brand New Hero

Kestrel also known as, Sybil Tan, is a brand new & original character coming to Marvel Strike Force (mobile game). Marvel & DC aren’t strangers to adding original heroes / villains exclusive to certain outlets that aren’t the comics. Green Arrow did this with John Diggle / Spartan in the television series, Arrow. Even Batman Arkham Knight introduced a new alter ego to a popular anti hero. With that being said, this character may potentially have lasting power one day. Check out the interview exerts from Gameinformer.com the game’s creative director, Jason Bender, below as well as some images of the brand new hero!

Sybil Tan is a physicist, engineer, pilot, and astronaut of Malaysian descent. She has devoted her life to science, having worked for U.S. Space Command at NASA during her early career. While there, she earned the callsign “Kestrel.” Shortly thereafter, Nick Fury recruited her in hopes of utilizing her intelligence and passion for exploring the boundaries of reality.

She soon became the lead architect of STRIKE’s interdimensional technology and was the first to test a prototype portal generator she developed. Unfortunately, the test failed and left Kestrel floating through the outer reaches of reality in her exo-suit. Kestrel used her time traveling through different dimensions to learn how realities diverge and how to manipulate and create new timelines. While she was floating from dimension to dimension, she encountered a ton of worlds that were conquered by Ultimus, the villain of Marvel Strike Force. When Kestrel finally made it back to her home dimension and timeline, she joined up with Strike Force to help stave off the invasion of Ultimus.

Kestrel uses her exo-suit, portal cannon, and dimension-manipulating abilities in battle, making her a powerful character in the lore. She was designed by Boundless Entertainment and Scopely in collaboration with Marvel. “It was an honor to collaborate with our friends at Boundless Entertainment and Scopely to unleash a brand new superstar into the Marvel universe,” VP of creative at Marvel Games Bill Rosemann said in a press release. “From her backstory and origin to her exo-suit and powers, Kestrel was crafted to deliver an immediate impact as players around the world celebrate Marvel Strike Force’s huge third anniversary.”

Netflix’s Yasuke Official Trailer

This adaptation stars LaKeith Stanfield as the titular character so expect the script as well as the performance to be well worth your time. Yasuke is getting plenty of recognition in modern media as there was a Yasuke biopic in development starring the late Chadwick Boseman but the project is evidently on hold. Warner Bros DC Film Issues

The screenwriter behind Batman V Superman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Chris Terrio, detailed his experience working with Warner Bros. on two blockbuster films and it’s not a good one. According to him, Warner Bros. had a slate of films but was more concerned about conforming to the schedule rather than building the world. From the outside looking in, this was assumed to be the case as DC announced film after film all before Batman V Superman was even released. It would’ve been smart to have a plan set in place just in case the reception was well and wait to see how it turned out. Here is the quote from his interview with Vanity Fair below:

“…as far as I can tell, and the brass at the very top, decided the order of the films… I was not consulted on the order of the films, even though I was the person writing Justice League. They just determined that it was going to be Batman/Superman, and then Wonder Woman, then Justice League, and then Aquaman. So there was never any thought to how the world was constructed before they issued this edict. They said, ‘Conform to this schedule.’”

“The Wonder Woman script wasn’t even finished when I wrote Justice League… So I had no basis to write Wonder Woman other than Batman/Superman. Themyscira didn’t even exist. I was never shown anything on the page for it. I didn’t know whether people could talk underwater. That was a thing that I had to ask, because I didn’t know if I could do underwater scenes with Aquaman and Atlanteans. It was all just from scratch because there had been no [solo] character films.”

“So Justice League needed to establish three of the characters; it had to create a long game mythology for the DC Universe. It had to resurrect Superman because he was dead at the end of the last movie. I just don’t know how you could do all that in under two hours. Maybe the 2017 release proved that you couldn’t”.

Chris Terrio also went into how much darker the WB’s story was before he got involved.

“The studio seemed to take this position after [Batman v Superman] that my writing was too dark and this was their problem… But what they didn’t mention was that, for example, in the draft of the Batman/Superman script that W.B. ha developed — [which was] the draft I was handed when I joined the project — Batman was not only branding criminals with the bat brand, he also ended the movie by branding Lex Luthor.”

“[Batman] has to see the error of his ways and remember his better self in the course of the movie. By the end of the movie, he needs to be the Batman we know, and he has to be ready to go and create the Justice League,”.

Chris Terrio also cut Superman “raining hell upon Black African Muslim characters in the desert,” after Lois is attacked by one of the kidnappers early in the movie. “I wanted to say [to WB], ‘I’ve been saving you from yourselves!.. I’ve been working with the director to bring a voice of conscience and sanity to the almost perversely dark film you’ve been developing for years, but I’m the problem here?’” Terrio says.

Removing his name close to the film’s release day would delay or create a scandal, “So I shut up and I said nothing publicly. I’ve never said anything about Justice League since then, but the movie doesn’t represent my work.”

Finally Chris Terrio talks about the Snyder cut.

“People do have problems with this version of the film… But that I can take because that is actual critique of my work. That’s fair game, and that I’ll engage with any day. People can quarrel with the movie, but at least they’re quarreling with my version and with Zack’s version of the film.”

Here’s hoping that the management gets better within Warner Bros as well as the way they treat their minority characters. Superman killing African / Muslim characters, Joss Whedon’s removal of Cyborg, Iris West and Martian Manhunter as well as the recent news that John Stewart was removed from the movie. Nothing is looking good in terms of how they handle these characters but let’s keep speaking out to make sure that we get the characters we want with proper treatment moving forward.
